Delhi Airport Runway to Close for 5-Month Upgrade
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is going to fix and upgrade its third runway, which has been in use for 17 years.
This includes resurfacing the runway, building a new exit path, and installing new lighting and systems.
The work will start on February 16 and is expected to finish by early July.
During this time, the airport will still handle 1,514 flights per day.
The goal is to make the runway safer and more efficient for future flights.
DIAL is working with other organizations to make sure the work goes smoothly and doesn't cause too many disruptions.
DIAL announced a comprehensive rehabilitation program for Runway 11R/29L, including resurfacing, new taxiway construction, and ILS installation.
The runway, commissioned in 2008, requires strengthening and upgrades due to increased traffic and natural ageing.
Work is scheduled to start on February 16 and is expected to be completed by early July, subject to DGCA approval.
The airport will maintain a daily movement capacity of 1,514 flights during the rehabilitation.
The project includes milling and resurfacing, AGL fixture replacement, and rigid pavement upgrades, among other works.
