Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution seeks NEET abolition; BJP stages walkout

Children in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu take a big exam called NEET to get into medical school.

Some people think this exam is not fair.

The leaders of Tamil Nadu think the exam goes against social justice and equality and takes away the state's right to decide about medical education.

So the government made a proposal, called a resolution, in the state assembly.

They asked the Union government of India to stop using NEET.

They want to give medical school seats based on marks from class 12 school exams instead.

The health minister, K G Arunraj, presented the proposal.

Many political parties in the assembly, including DMK, AIADMK, PMK and Left parties, supported the proposal.

But the BJP party did not agree, and its members walked out of the room to protest.

Now the Union government will decide whether to follow the state's request.
