Tim Cook’s Apple Journey Ends as CEO, Continues Chairman

Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 and first focused on making the company’s operations work smoothly.

He helped manage Apple’s supply chain, worldwide operations and reseller relationships.

Steve Jobs chose Cook to become CEO when Jobs stepped down in August 2011.

Cook led Apple with a focus on operations rather than trying to act like Jobs.

While Cook was CEO, Apple expanded services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+ and iCloud+.

Apple also introduced or expanded products including Apple Watch and AirPods.

The company began making more of its own chips, including the M-series.

Cook also oversaw dividends and share buybacks.

On September 1, 2026, he is scheduled to become executive chairman, with John Ternus becoming CEO.
