Madhya Pradesh Police to Use Ramcharitmanas in Training
The Madhya Pradesh Police are starting to have police trainees read the Ramcharitmanas, a Hindu religious text.
This is because many recruits felt homesick and wanted to move training locations.
The police hope that by reading about Lord Ram's experiences during his 14-year exile, recruits will learn how to handle being away from their families.
The readings are not mandatory for non-Hindu trainees, and the meanings of the text will be explained.
The Congress party has criticized this decision, saying the government is mixing religion with training.
The BJP, however, supports the initiative, arguing it will help prepare trainees for challenges.
Madhya Pradesh Police will begin daily readings of Ramcharitmanas for police recruits.
The decision was made after 300 recruits requested transfers due to homesickness.
The readings aim to teach recruits to cope with being away from home, drawing lessons from Lord Ram's exile.
Recruits will recite at least two chapters of the epic each night.
The Congress party has criticized the initiative, while the BJP has defended it.
