Starbucks to Close Pick-Up Only Stores, Shift Strategy
Starbucks is shutting down its stores where you can only order ahead and pick up your drink.
They're doing this because they want to bring back the feeling of a cozy coffee shop where people can hang out.
These quick-grab stores, often in busy places like airports, didn't have much space to sit and didn't offer that experience.
Instead, Starbucks is making its regular stores nicer with better seating and lighting.
They're also trying out smaller stores that are both quick and welcoming, so you can still get your coffee fast, but also enjoy the vibe.
Starbucks is closing its mobile order and pick-up only stores.
The closure affects approximately 80 to 90 locations in fiscal 2026.
CEO Brian Niccol stated these stores lacked the 'warmth and human connection' of the brand.
Starbucks will invest in upgrading existing stores with improved seating and lighting.
The company is testing smaller-format stores to blend convenience and atmosphere.
