Kolkata Metro Rolls Out Energy-Efficient BHEL Rake
Kolkata Metro has made some big improvements to one of its trains.
They fixed up an old train, called the BHEL rake, to make it more energy-efficient and compatible with new signalling systems.
This train can now support something called regeneration, which helps save energy.
They also introduced a new train, the 10th Dalian trainset, for passengers to use.
These changes are part of Kolkata Metro's efforts to make their trains better and more efficient.
Kolkata Metro recommissioned an energy-efficient BHEL rake (MR-301) with IGBT-Based DC-DC Chopper Propulsion System.
The rake was flagged off on 30.01.2026 from Noapara Carshed.
The rake is now compatible with CBTC signalling system and supports regeneration.
Kolkata Metro also rolled out the 10th Dalian trainset (MR-503) for commercial service.
The improvements aim to enhance energy efficiency and compatibility with modern signalling systems.
