Dilapidated bridge collapses under truck in Pune
A very old and damaged bridge in Pune, which was already closed for big, heavy vehicles, fell apart on Saturday evening.
A truck was trying to cross it when the bridge broke, and the truck fell through.
The driver got a few small injuries.
The bridge had been closed for heavy vehicles since June 19 because it had rust and cracks.
People in nearby villages are upset because the government did not fix the bridge even though they asked many times.
The bridge's collapse has made things difficult for people in 25 villages who use this route every day.
However, there are other roads they can use, so no village is completely cut off from important services.
A dilapidated bridge on the Gunjawani river in Pune, closed for heavy vehicles since June 19, collapsed on Saturday evening.
A partially loaded Eicher truck carrying rubble attempted to cross the bridge, causing it to collapse and injuring the driver, Raju Tanaji Minde.
The bridge had developed rust and cracks, leading to its closure for heavy vehicles, with a notice board installed by the Pune Zilla Parishad.
The collapse has caused inconvenience to residents of 25 villages in Rajgad taluka, who use the route daily, but alternate routes are available.
Villagers expressed anger over the government's failure to repair the bridge despite multiple requests from local gram panchayats.
