IndiGo Receives First Airbus A321XLR
IndiGo, a big airline in India, got its first Airbus A321XLR plane.
This new plane can fly really far and is more fuel-efficient.
IndiGo plans to use it for new flights to places like Athens, Istanbul, and Bali.
They also need to hire 800 new pilots by next year to fly all these new planes.
IndiGo is changing how they pay for their planes too, so they can own more of them instead of leasing.
This is all part of their plan to grow and serve more passengers both in India and around the world.
IndiGo received its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft on 7 January 2026, marking a significant milestone in its long-haul expansion plans.
The airline plans to launch non-stop flights to Athens from Delhi and Mumbai starting later this month, with plans to expand to Istanbul and Bali.
IndiGo has ordered a total of 40 A321XLR aircraft, with nine expected to be delivered in 2026.
IndiGo must hire 158 pilots by 10 February 2024 and 742 by December 2024 to support its operational needs.
The airline is shifting its aircraft financing strategy to own more planes or take long-term leases to improve financial management.
