Iran Claims Missile Strikes on US Bases in Jordan

Iran said it fired missiles at two United States military bases in Jordan.

Iran said this was retaliation for American attacks on Iranian rocket launchers.

The United States said its earlier attacks were meant to stop Iran from placing sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the American attacks caused casualties.

Jordan said its army intercepted eight missiles, but it did not say who launched them.

Fighting has continued for six months, even though the most intense battles ended after an April ceasefire.

The Strait of Hormuz is important because many oil shipments pass through it.

The conflict has contributed to higher energy prices and shortages.

Peace efforts involving countries including Pakistan and Qatar have not yet produced a final agreement.
