Assam CM Confident in Zubeen Garg Murder Conviction
Zubeen Garg, a famous singer from Assam, was found dead in Singapore on September 19, 2023.
The Assam government set up a special team, called the SIT, to investigate his death.
This team has now charged four people with murder: Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddhartha Sharma, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and Amritprava Mahanta.
These people were involved in organizing a festival.
Zubeen's cousin, Sandipan Garg, who is also a suspended police officer, and two personal security officers, Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora, have also been named in the chargesheet.
The SIT looked at 300 witnesses and wrote a very long report, 12,000 pages, to explain their findings.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that Zubeen's death was a murder and that the prosecution has enough evidence to secure a conviction.
The government plans to request a fast-track court to speed up the trial.
