Indian Films Join Oscars 2026 Race
Two Indian movies, 'Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1' and 'Tanvi The Great', have been added to the list of films that can win an Oscar for Best Picture.
The Oscars are like a big award show for movies.
To be on this list, the movies had to show in theaters in the US and meet some special rules.
'Kantara' is about a man who protects a forest and its people, and 'Tanvi The Great' is about a girl who wants to join the army like her dad.
The Oscars will announce the nominations on January 22, 2025.
Additionally, 'Mahavatar Narsimha', 'Tourist Family', and 'Sister Midnight' are also eligible for the Oscars 2026.
Neeraj Ghaywan’s 'Homebound' is India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category.
Five Indian films, including 'Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1' and 'Tanvi The Great', are now eligible for the 98th Oscars Best Picture race.
The films met all the requirements, including theatrical runs and submission of a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards Entry (RAISE) form.
They also met at least two of the four Academy inclusion standards and had a qualifying theatrical engagement in 10 of the top 50 US markets.
'Kantara: Chapter 1' is produced by Hombale Films and revolves around the origins of Daiva worship in Tulunadu.
The Academy Award nominations will be revealed on January 22, 2025, and the Oscars ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026.
