ACB Seeks Permission to Act Against Additional Sessions Judge in Bribery Case
A court clerk and a judge in Mumbai are in trouble with the anti-corruption police.
The clerk allegedly asked for a large sum of money, ₹25 lakh, promising to change a court's decision.
He said this money was for himself and the judge.
The person who was asked for the bribe didn't agree and told the police.
After some talking, the clerk agreed to take ₹15 lakh instead.
The police caught the clerk when he was taking this money.
The clerk then apparently called the judge to tell him about getting the money, and the judge supposedly agreed.
The clerk has been taken into police custody, and the police now need special permission from higher judges to take action against the judge.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will seek permission from the Principal District Judge to proceed against Additional Sessions Judge Aejazuddin S. Kazi.
Judge Kazi has been booked in a bribery case involving Mazgaon court clerk Chandrakant Vasudev.
The clerk allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh, for himself and the judge, to alter a court verdict.
After negotiations, the clerk agreed to accept ₹15 lakh and was caught red-handed by the ACB on Tuesday.
The ACB claims the clerk informed Judge Kazi about the bribe money, and the judge agreed to it.
