Meta Secures Nuclear Energy for AI Expansion
Meta, the company behind Facebook, has made big deals to buy nuclear energy.
This energy will power their data centers and AI projects.
They are buying energy from existing nuclear plants and also helping to build new ones.
These deals will create many jobs and help the U.S. stay a leader in AI.
The energy from these deals could power about 5 million homes.
Other big tech companies like Amazon and Microsoft are also using nuclear energy, but Meta's deals are the biggest so far.
This is important because AI needs a lot of energy, and nuclear power is clean and reliable.
Meta is also using some natural gas plants for their projects, but they are focusing on low-carbon energy.
Meta has signed contracts to purchase nuclear energy from Vistra Corp., Oklo Inc., TerraPower LLC, and Constellation Energy Corp.
The deals exceed 6 gigawatts, enough to power around 5 million homes.
Meta will support the development of new nuclear reactors and extend the life of existing ones.
These agreements will create thousands of skilled jobs in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The energy will primarily support Meta's AI infrastructure, including the Prometheus and Hyperion projects.
