SC Allows KPL to License ‘Kirloskar’ Trademark
The Supreme Court of India has allowed Kirloskar Proprietary Ltd (KPL) to continue using the 'Kirloskar' trademark for its member companies.
This decision comes after a dispute with Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL), which wanted to stop KPL from licensing the trademark to companies in similar businesses.
The Bombay High Court had initially allowed KPL to license the trademark but later restricted it.
The Supreme Court has now stayed this restriction, allowing KPL to continue licensing the trademark until the Bombay High Court makes a final decision.
The Supreme Court also asked the Bombay High Court to decide the case quickly, preferably within three months.
The dispute started when KBL filed a lawsuit to prevent KPL from creating any third-party interests in the trademark.
