BMC Polls: Road Work Progress Disparity
The city government in Mumbai is working on making roads better by covering them with concrete.
They have been doing this work in different parts of the city, but some areas are much further along than others.
In the main part of the city, called the island city, only 15% of the roads have been finished, while in the suburbs, 53% are done.
The government started this work later in the island city, and it's harder to do the work there because of traffic and other problems.
Some areas, like Dahisar and Borivali, have made a lot of progress, but others, like Byculla and Malabar Hill, have barely started.
The government is trying to finish all the roads before the elections, but some parts might not be done in time.
The weather and new contractors have also made the work slower.
Road concretisation progress is significantly higher in suburbs (53.33%) compared to the island city (15.3%).
17 of 24 main administrative wards in Mumbai have not reached the 50% completion mark for road works.
The BMC has taken up concretisation in 2,121 roads, with 815 completed and 625 in progress.
Work in the island city started nearly a year later than in the suburbs, affecting progress.
Weather conditions and new contractors have slowed down the road work in the eastern suburbs.
