HC Summons Principal Secretary Over Election Law Case Delays
The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is upset because the state government has not filed a reply in a case about the rules for election disputes.
The court has given the government many chances to respond, but they still haven't.
The court is now asking the principal secretary of the Urban Administration and Housing Department to come to court and explain why there has been such a long delay.
The case is important because it challenges a rule that affects how election disputes are handled.
The next hearing is on January 13, 2026.
The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressed displeasure over the state government's repeated delays in filing a reply in an election law case.
The case challenges the validity of Rule 19(2) of the MP Municipalities (Election Petition) Rules, 1962.
The court had issued multiple extensions, with the last one granted on September 24, 2025.
The High Court has summoned the principal secretary of the Urban Administration and Housing Department to appear via video conferencing on January 13, 2026.
The delay is also affecting a related civil revision pending under the MP Municipalities Act, 1961.
