Murshidabad Woman’s Journey from Village College to TISS

Murshidabad Woman’s Journey from Village College to TISS

Yeasmin Khatun grew up in a farming family in Murshidabad.

She wanted to study and learn about the wider world.

Her college teachers encouraged her to apply for postgraduate courses.

She chose Tribal Welfare Studies because she had seen difficulties faced by tribal families nearby.

She was accepted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai.

The course cost about as much as her family earned in a year.

Her father borrowed money and used funds meant for farming to help her.

In Mumbai, Yeasmin is learning to manage a new city, new languages, and life far from home.
