NGT Closes Tree Transplantation Case After MCGM's Affidavit
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Mumbai has closed a case about tree transplantation.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) told the NGT that they only give permission for moving trees, but it's the project teams who actually move and take care of the trees.
The NGT was okay with this and closed the case.
They also said that the survival rate of the moved trees is about 47%, which they think is good.
If a tree doesn't survive, the project team has to plant three new trees.
The MCGM explained that moving trees is a careful process and that many things, like the tree's health and the weather, affect whether the tree survives.
NGT closed the tree transplantation case after accepting MCGM's affidavit.
MCGM clarified that its role is limited to granting permissions, with project proponents responsible for transplantation.
The survival rate of transplanted trees is 47.44%, which NGT found satisfactory.
Project proponents must plant three trees if a transplanted tree does not survive.
MCGM explained the scientific procedure for tree transplantation and the factors affecting survival.
