Bangladesh President Resigns Due to Health

Bangladesh President Resigns Due to Health

The President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin, resigned because he has serious health problems.

He has heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney problems, and a condition called Autonomic Neuropathy.

This condition sometimes makes him lose consciousness briefly.

He said he can't do his job as President because of these health issues.

He was elected in April 2023 and was supposed to serve for five years, but he resigned almost two years early.

The Speaker of Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, will be the Acting President until a new President is elected.

There have been some political tensions, with reports saying the government was uncomfortable with Shahabuddin.

He also denied talking to the former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, who is living in India.

Shahabuddin was the only constitutional office-holder from the previous government after the student-led uprising that overthrew Hasina's government.
