Mizoram Opposition Condemns New Forest Law, Demands Withdrawal
The government in Mizoram has decided to adopt a new forest law, but some groups in the state aren't happy.
They think the law is a big problem for Mizoram.
These groups, including political parties and other organizations, are worried the law will let the central government take control of land.
They believe this could cause problems for the Mizo people, who have special rights to their land.
The groups want the government to get rid of the new law and are even threatening to protest if they don't.
The law could allow the government to build projects without permission near the border, and it might go against the state's rules about land ownership.
The government, however, argues they have to adopt the law because the original forest law is already in effect.
Opposition parties in Mizoram criticize the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act (FCAA), 2023.
The Mizoram assembly adopted a resolution endorsing the FCAA, 2023 on August 27.
MNF, Congress, ZORO and CJM have voiced concerns about the new law.
Opposition parties want the resolution withdrawn and are against the law.
The law is perceived as a threat to the rights of the Mizo people and land ownership.
