Student groups clash over Delhi’s 10,000-student hostel plan

Student groups clash over Delhi’s 10,000-student hostel plan

The Delhi government says it plans to build hostels for 10,000 students.

NSUI supports better student housing but wants more information about the plan.

It asked where the hostels will be built, when construction will finish, how much they will cost and who can use them.

NSUI also questioned why the announcement came just before student elections.

This happened after a paying guest building collapsed in Satya Niketan, killing seven people.

ABVP said NSUI was using the housing issue for political reasons.

The Indian Youth Congress held a march asking for safer and cheaper accommodation.

The groups agree that many students need better housing, but they disagree about the announcement’s timing and political purpose.
