Uniting Voices' India Tour Bridges Cultures Through Music
A group of young singers from America went on a special trip to India.
The group is called Uniting Voices, and it brings kids from different backgrounds together to sing.
On the trip, they performed at a club in Mumbai, a big city in India.
They also spent a week in Panchgani, working closely with Indian artists.
Then they traveled to Dharamshala, a town in the mountains.
There, they sang for Tibetan students and even met a kind leader called the Dalai Lama.
The singers come from the city of Chicago.
Their leader is a famous musician named Josephine Lee.
Her group helps nearly 4,000 kids every year share their voices with the world.
Uniting Voices started in 1956, and it still uses music to bring people together.
Uniting Voices, formerly the Chicago Children's Choir, toured India with an ensemble of 53 singers from Chicago.
The choir performed at the Willingdon Club in Mumbai and held a week-long residency in Panchgani, Maharashtra.
The tour concluded in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, with performances at two Tibetan schools and a meeting with the Dalai Lama.
President Josephine Lee, an Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated conductor, said the trip was designed to invite introspection, reflection and wisdom.
Founded in 1956 during the Civil Rights movement, Uniting Voices serves nearly 4,000 young people aged six to 18 each year.
