Delhi Riots Case: Court Hears Bail Plea
In a court in New Delhi, the police told the judge that they have good reasons to believe that three men, Salim Malik, Athar Khan, and former MLA Tahir Hussain, were involved in the 2020 Delhi riots.
These men asked for bail, but the police said no because they think the accusations against them are true.
The judge will decide on their bail requests tomorrow.
The police said that these men were involved with the main people who planned the riots.
The Supreme Court had already given bail to five other people in the same case, but not to everyone.
There are 20 people accused in total, and 18 have asked for bail.
Seven of them, including these three men, are still in jail.
Delhi Police argued that there are reasonable grounds to believe the accusations against Salim Malik, Athar Khan, and Tahir Hussain are true.
The court is expected to decide on their bail applications on Thursday.
The accused are charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
The Supreme Court had previously granted bail to five other accused in the same case but denied it to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.
Out of 20 accused, 18 have applied for bail, with seven still in prison.
