Alternative-fuel passenger vehicles overtake petrol in India's August retail
Car and other vehicle sales in India reached a record level for August 2026.
Dealers sold 24,23,201 vehicles, which was more than in August last year.
Sales were still lower than July because rainy-season demand was weaker.
Some festival shopping also moved into September.
