Kolkata Port Records Strong Cargo Growth in April-May 2025
The port in Kolkata is doing very well!
It's like a giant storehouse where ships bring and take away goods, and they moved nearly 30% more stuff in the first two months of this year compared to last year.
This means more cargo was shipped in and out of the port.
Parts of the port, like Haldia and Kolkata Dock, also saw increases.
Even the containers (big boxes for shipping) saw more traffic this year!
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) in Kolkata saw a 27.56% year-on-year growth in cargo handling during April-May 2025.
The port handled 11.252 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in the two-month period, up from 8.821 MMT the previous year.
Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) experienced a 27.45% increase in cargo handling.
Kolkata Dock System (KDS) saw a 27.84% increase in cargo handling.
