Hariyali Amavasya 2026: Devotees Plant Trees, Worship Lord Shiva

Hariyali Amavasya is a special day in the Hindu calendar that happens on the new moon during the rainy month of Sawan.

The word 'Hariyali' means greenery.

The festival celebrates nature, rain, and the start of a season of good farming.

Many people plant trees such as fruit trees, Tulsi, and Peepal because the monsoon rain helps them grow strong.

Devotees take an early bath, visit Shiva temples, and offer water, flowers, and Bilva leaves.

They pray for peace, good health, prosperity, and happiness for their families.

People also remember their ancestors by performing Tarpan and giving food and clothes to those in need.

In different parts of India, the day has different names, like Gatari Amavasya or Adi Amavasya.

The Shravan month is especially sacred to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

People believe that these kind acts bring blessings and spiritual merit.
