American Airlines Flight to Naples Diverts Due to Aircraft Issue
Imagine a plane going from one city to another, but it was the wrong size!
An American Airlines flight was supposed to go to Naples, Italy.
However, they accidentally sent a big plane, a Boeing 787-9, which the Naples airport wasn't equipped to handle.
The bigger plane needed a special rescue team the airport didn't have.
So, the plane had to land in Rome instead.
Everyone then took a bus to Naples.
The airline said sorry to everyone for the change in plans, and the plane later flew to Chicago.
American Airlines flight 780, headed to Naples, diverted to Rome on June 3.
The diversion was due to the use of a Boeing 787-9, a larger aircraft than Naples airport can accommodate.
Naples International Airport does not meet the required safety standards (RFFS Category 9) for the larger aircraft.
Passengers were transported from Rome to Naples by bus.
The same aircraft later flew from Rome to Chicago.
