Meghalaya High Court orders clubbing of FIRs against TMC leader
Some complaints were made against a politician named S G Esmatur Mominin because of things he said during an election.
The police wrote down these complaints in five separate files called FIRs.
The politician said all the files were about the same events.
He asked an important court, the Meghalaya High Court, to combine them into one case.
The judge, Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, agreed with him.
The court told the police to move four of the files to the same police station within three days.
The earliest case, at Araimile police station, will stay there and the others will be joined to it.
This means the politician will only have to answer for one case instead of five.
If he still wants, he can later ask the court to cancel the case completely.
The Meghalaya High Court directed police to club five criminal cases against TMC leader S G Esmatur Mominin over alleged hate speeches during the GHADC elections.
Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere passed the order while disposing of four petitions filed by Mominin, a former MLA.
Four FIRs registered at Phulbari police station will be transferred to Araimile police station and merged with the first FIR (case no. 19 of 2026, registered on March 10, 2026).
Mominin argued all FIRs stemmed from the same chain of events during the GHADC elections, including an alleged assault on him and his subsequent public address.
The court held the cases arose from the same cause of action and said Mominin may file a fresh petition seeking quashing of proceedings after the cases are clubbed.
