Pargat Singh Takes Punjab Congress Helm Ahead of Polls
Pargat Singh appointed Punjab Congress chief · theprint.in

Congress chose former hockey captain Pargat Singh to lead its Punjab unit.

He replaced Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who resigned on October 2.

Warring met Rahul Gandhi before submitting his resignation.

He said Sachin Pilot may have wanted him replaced, but also said he resigned voluntarily.

The change happened before Punjab’s expected assembly elections early next year.

Reports said some Punjab Congress leaders were unhappy with Warring continuing in the role.

Pargat Singh has been an MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment and previously served as a Punjab minister.

He first entered politics with the Shiromani Akali Dal before joining Congress.

Congress said its existing working presidents and election committee leaders would continue in their roles.

Outgoing Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP

“When he was appointed in charge, I went to formally congratulate him. I spoke with him for about 15 minutes that day. But I haven't met him since. Given my long journey in politics, I feel that Sachin Pilot must have decided it was time to remove 'Raja' from the post.”
