India's Russian Oil Imports to Drop in December Amid Sanctions
India is going to buy much less Russian oil in December because of new rules from the US, EU, and UK.
These rules make it harder for India to buy oil from Russian companies like Rosneft and Lukoil.
Because of this, Indian companies are being very careful and are looking for other places to get their oil.
Some companies have already stopped buying Russian oil, while others are only buying from companies that aren't affected by the sanctions.
India is also buying more oil from the US, partly because the US has increased taxes on Indian goods.
This is all happening while the price of oil is going down because there's more oil available and people are worried about the economy.
India's Russian oil imports are expected to drop to 600,000-650,000 barrels per day in December, the lowest in three years.
Western sanctions, particularly from the US, EU, and UK, have made Indian refiners cautious about buying Russian oil.
Most Indian refiners have stopped buying Russian oil, while others are only buying from non-sanctioned entities.
India is buying more oil from the US, with the share of US oil in October surging to its highest since June 2024.
Crude oil prices have dropped, with futures on track for a fourth consecutive monthly decline in November.
