SSTA Calls Off Strike After Minister's Assurance
A group of teachers in Tamil Nadu, India, were on a long strike because they wanted to be paid the same as other teachers for the same work.
The state's education minister asked them to stop the strike and promised to fix the pay issues.
The teachers agreed to stop the strike because they trusted the minister and were worried about their health and the students' education.
The minister also asked the teachers to return to their jobs for the sake of the students.
The Tamil Nadu Secondary Grade Seniority Teachers Association (SSTA) called off their strike on Saturday.
The strike was in demand of 'Equal Pay for Equal Work'.
State Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi assured of implementing the report of a three-member committee formed to address pay anomalies.
The SSTA decided to postpone the protest based on the goodwill shown by the M K Stalin-led government.
The minister requested the 5781 secondary school teachers on strike to return to their jobs in the interest of the students.
