Pollution Board Moves To Close Two Prawn Units

Pollution Board Moves To Close Two Prawn Units

Pollution officials inspected two prawn-processing factories in Nellore district.

They said both factories were releasing wastewater without properly treating it.

The factories had treatment plants, but officials alleged those systems were not being used adequately.

Officials also said the factories were burning solid waste.

The Waterbase factory produced about eight tonnes of waste each day.

Abad Overseas produced about 20 tonnes each day.

The factories were also criticized for not having enough greenery and environmental safeguards.

The pollution board began steps that could lead to the factories being closed.

The board said protecting people, water, and the environment was a priority.
