ED Attaches Anil Ambani's Group Assets Worth Over Rs 7,500 Crore
Imagine a company that borrowed a lot of money from people.
The government's financial detectives, called the ED, think that some of this money was used improperly, like paying off loans for other companies or being sent out of the country.
So, the ED has taken over many important places owned by the company and its former boss, Anil Ambani.
These places include houses, offices, and a large piece of land, worth over 7,500 crore rupees in total.
The detectives are investigating how loans taken by two finance companies, RHFL and RCFL, were allegedly misused.
They found that money was moved around in ways that broke the rules, and some funds might have been hidden.
One of the companies involved, Reliance Infrastructure, said that while some of their assets were taken, their business will not be affected, and that Anil Ambani is no longer in charge of their board.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached 132 acres of land in Navi Mumbai valued at ₹4,500 crore, part of an ongoing loan fraud investigation.
This brings the total value of assets attached in connection with Anil Ambani's group to over ₹7,500 crore, including previously attached properties worth ₹3,084 crore.
Key attached assets include Anil Ambani's Pali Hill residence, the Reliance Centre in Delhi, and land within the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City in Navi Mumbai.
The ED alleges diversion of funds, misuse of bill discounting, and siphoning of money abroad, primarily linked to Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL) and Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL).
Reliance Infrastructure stated the attached assets do not impact its business operations and clarified that the specific properties belong to Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom), which is undergoing insolvency.
