Allahabad High Court orders UP compensation for illegally seized vehicle

Allahabad High Court orders UP compensation for illegally seized vehicle

A man in India named Vinod Kumar Singh had his small truck, a Tata Ace, taken away by police.

The police thought he was carrying cows to another state to be killed, which is against the law their state has.

But when the truck was checked, no meat or dead animals were found, and the vet's report said the animals were healthy.

The man said he was only moving a cow and her calf from one town to another in the same state, and that he was blamed after his driver refused to pay a bribe.

A very important court, the Allahabad High Court, looked at the case.

The judge said the government had no real proof and had only guessed because the town is near the border with another state.

The judge told the government to give the truck back and to pay the man money every month for the time he could not work.

The judge also said the man should get extra money for the trouble he went through.

This case shows that officials should have good evidence before taking away someone's belongings.
