Google's TPUs Challenge Nvidia's GPU Dominance
Nvidia has been the leader in making chips called GPUs, which are really good at helping computers learn and do smart things.
But now, Google has made its own chips called TPUs, which are cheaper and more efficient for big computer learning tasks.
Google's new smart computer program, Gemini 3, was made using TPUs, not Nvidia's GPUs.
This is a big deal because it shows that Google's chips can do the job just as well, maybe even better.
Other companies like Anthropic and Meta are also interested in using Google's TPUs.
However, Nvidia still has a lot of advantages, like special software that many companies use and a wide range of tools.
So, while Google's TPUs are a strong challenger, Nvidia isn't going away anytime soon.
Nvidia dominates the GPU market with over 80% share and a market cap of $4,392.22 billion.
Google's Gemini 3 AI model, trained on TPUs, outperforms rivals and is offered as a cost-effective alternative to GPUs.
Anthropic and Meta are considering large-scale adoption of Google's TPUs for AI workloads.
TPUs offer advantages in compute efficiency and cost, but Nvidia's CUDA ecosystem and versatility remain strong.
Other competitors like Huawei, Graphcore, Cerebras, and SambaNova are also challenging Nvidia's dominance.
