VB-G RAM G Bill Introduced in Lok Sabha
The Indian government is trying to replace a 20-year-old law called MGNREGA, which gives poor people in villages 100 days of work every year.
The new law, called VB-G RAM G Bill, promises 125 days of work but the opposition parties like Congress say it's not good.
They think the new law will make the government in Delhi more powerful and take away the rights of poor people.
They also don't like that the government is changing the name of the law.
The opposition leaders protested and said the new law should be withdrawn.
The government says the new law is better and will help villages more.
They also say they respect Mahatma Gandhi and are following his principles.
The new law will start on April 1, 2026.
The Indian government introduced the VB-G RAM G Bill, 2025 to replace MGNREGA, which guarantees 100 days of wage employment per rural household per year.
The new bill promises 125 days of wage employment but opposition alleges it weakens rights and centralizes power.
Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested the bill, calling it a conspiracy to end MGNREGA and disrespectful to Mahatma Gandhi.
The government defended the bill, with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking permission to introduce it, stating it aligns with the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and aims for the establishment of Ram Rajya.
The new bill includes provisions for water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood-related infrastructure, and special works to mitigate extreme weather events.
