Nerul Street School Aasha Kiran Bal Gurukul Empowers Underprivileged Children
Imagine a special school in Navi Mumbai called Aasha Kiran, which means 'ray of hope.'
It started ten years ago with just a few kids sitting on the floor.
Now, it helps 120 children from poor families go to school.
Kind volunteers, like retired people and moms, teach them important subjects like math and English.
They even help them learn life skills.
This school is very special because it doesn't cost any money, and it works with the police station!
The children are doing so well that all of them have passed their big exams for the last four years.
Some students have even gone on to college and now help teach younger kids.
The school keeps running because of people who care and give help, like a group called 'Navi Mumbai Moms' who throw parties for the kids.
Aasha Kiran Bal Gurukul in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, started as a street school for underprivileged children and now educates 120 students from Class 1 to 12.
The school, established in February 2014, operates out of a room in the Nerul Police Station with support from police inspectors and over 20 dedicated volunteers.
It focuses on core subjects, moral support, mentorship, and life skills, achieving a remarkable 100% pass rate in SSC examinations for the past four years.
The initiative is entirely volunteer-driven, receiving no formal funding or fees, and relies on community goodwill and in-kind contributions.
Former students are pursuing higher education and some are returning to mentor current students, demonstrating the long-term impact of the Gurukul.
