Delhi Building Collapse Prompts CPI Call for Compensation, Safety Audits

A five-storey building in Delhi that housed students collapsed on Sunday.

It was being used as a boys’ hostel and paying guest accommodation.

Three students were reported dead, and other people may have been trapped.

Repair work was happening in the basement when the building fell.

Local residents said rainwater collected in the basement may have weakened the foundation.

Communist Party of India leader D Raja blamed alleged government negligence and corruption.

He asked the government to compensate victims and their families.

He also called for safety checks of hostels and paying guest homes.

He said students need safer and more affordable housing.
