Suvendu Threatens Action Over Bhattacharyya’s ‘Anti-Hindu’ Post
A beer bottle was thrown at lawyer and politician Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya’s home.
Police arrested a man named Bappa Guchhait as the main suspect.
Bhattacharyya posted that the attackers were “Hindutvavadi goons.”
West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari said that wording was an attack on Hindus and that police would take legal steps.
He said Bhattacharyya should edit the post and warned police might ask the platform to remove it.
Adhikari described Guchhait as a Trinamool worker.
But the article says Guchhait’s Facebook page showed him with BJP leaders and listed him as a BJP booth president.
Bhattacharyya said he would welcome action against him.
West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari said police arrested Bappa Guchhait, 29, as the prime suspect in a beer bottle attack at Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya’s home.
Adhikari said complaints had been filed at Garfa and Kasba police stations over Bhattacharyya’s post describing the attackers as “Hindutvavadi goons.”
He said police had been instructed to file an FIR against Bhattacharyya and warned that Kolkata Police could ask the social media platform to remove the post if it was not edited.
The article says Guchhait’s Facebook profile showed photographs with BJP leaders and stated he had been a BJP booth president since January 2021, despite Adhikari calling him a Trinamool worker.
Bhattacharyya said he welcomed legal action, arguing it would show Adhikari represented a religious community rather than the Constitution.
