Kashmir's bat industry seeks help amid willow crisis
Kashmir is the only place in India where cricket bats are made from willow wood.
There are about 400-450 factories in Kashmir that make 1.5 million bats every year.
But there's a problem: there aren't enough willow trees.
Some people are taking the willow wood out of Kashmir, which makes it hard for the factories to get the wood they need.
The factories asked the government to help.
The Chief Minister said he would look into the problem and try to help the factories.
They are also going to talk to the forest department to plant more willow trees.
Kashmir's cricket bat industry is worth ₹700 crore and employs thousands of people.
The industry faces a shortage of willow wood, the raw material for bat manufacturing.
Smuggling of willow clefts out of Kashmir has reduced the availability of raw material for local manufacturers.
The government imposed a ban on the export of willow clefts in 2005, but smuggling continues.
The Chief Minister has assured the industry that the government will examine their concerns and take steps to strengthen the sector.
