Delhi HC Orders Google to Remove Rajat Sharma Deepfake YouTube Channels
Imagine someone is using a computer to make fake videos of a famous news anchor, Rajat Sharma, saying and doing things he never did.
This is called a 'deepfake'.
The news anchor was upset because these fake videos were spreading wrong information.
So, he asked a court for help.
The court told YouTube's parent company, Google, to take down the fake videos and the channels that were sharing them.
They have to do this quickly and also give the news anchor some information about who made these fake videos.
This is to protect the news anchor's reputation and stop people from being tricked by fake videos.
The Delhi High Court has ordered Google to remove two YouTube channels featuring deepfake videos of journalist Rajat Sharma.
Google has been given 36 hours to take down the channels and one week to provide channel details to Sharma.
The court found the videos to be fake, doctored, and AI-generated, impersonating Rajat Sharma and spreading misinformation.
The directive aims to protect Sharma's personality rights and combat the spread of fabricated content.
The lawsuit alleges the misuse of AI to create doctored videos using Sharma's distorted images, voice, and other traits.
