Centre Clears Telangana’s Proposed Rs 5,000-Crore German Loan

Telangana wants to improve water and other city services in smaller cities.

A committee in the Union finance ministry has given an early approval for the state to seek a 5,000-crore-rupee loan from Germany’s development bank, KfW.

The whole programme is expected to cost 7,143 crore rupees, with Telangana contributing 2,143 crore.

A major part would improve sewer pipes and wastewater treatment in Greater Warangal.

Other plans include better drinking water, drainage, lake restoration and waste services.

The programme also aims to help cities cope with climate-related challenges.

More detailed plans for each project must be submitted before a loan agreement is signed.

NITI Aayog suggested linking support to better municipal governance, and Telangana accepted the suggestions.
