Court Dismisses Petition on Rahul Gandhi's Citizenship
A court in Lucknow, India, has dismissed a case against Rahul Gandhi, a leader of the Congress party.
The case was about whether Rahul Gandhi holds British citizenship.
The person who filed the case, a member of the BJP party, argued that Rahul Gandhi had broken several laws.
The court, however, said it couldn't decide on someone's citizenship and that the case was not valid.
The court heard the case for eight days and looked at many documents and arguments before making its decision.
The Special MP-MLA Court in Lucknow dismissed a petition alleging Rahul Gandhi's British citizenship.
The petition was filed by BJP member S Vignesh Shishir, seeking an FIR against Gandhi under several legal acts.
The court found the petition to be an abuse of process and stated it lacks jurisdiction over citizenship matters.
The hearing lasted eight days, with the petitioner presenting arguments for over 20 hours and submitting 45 annexures, a sealed envelope, and a 310-page plaint.
The case was transferred from Rae Bareli to Lucknow after the petitioner cited threats to his life and demanded an impartial hearing.
