India Engages in Key Trade Talks
India is talking to both Canada and the US about making big trade deals.
With Canada, they will start talking next week, but the actual negotiations won't begin until February 2026.
They want to focus on things like special minerals, clean energy, and space technology.
With the US, they are trying to fix some problems with extra taxes on Indian goods.
The US put these taxes because India buys oil from Russia.
India and the US are also working on a bigger trade deal, but that will take more time.
The leaders of India and Canada met recently and decided to work together more.
India is also trying to sell more things to other countries besides the US, like the European Union.
India and Canada to begin discussions next week on starting negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA), with actual negotiations expected to start in February 2026.
India and the US are negotiating on two tracks to resolve trade stand-offs, with the first track aiming to address the 50% additional tariff on Indian exports by the end of 2025.
Key focus areas for the India-Canada trade partnership include critical minerals, clean energy, aerospace, AI, quantum computing, and defense.
India and the US have been negotiating a bilateral trade agreement since February 13, 2025, with the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
India's exports to the US showed signs of recovery in October, with a 14.5% increase from September, despite the 50% tariff on most Indian goods.
