Metro Rail Expansion Boosts Financial Stability in India
India has been building a lot of metro rail lines in big cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
A special report found that these metro lines help people pay their home loans better.
When people have easy access to metro trains, they spend less money on things like fuel and car repairs.
This extra money helps them pay their home loans on time and even pay them off faster.
The report also says that metro trains are good for the environment because they reduce pollution.
In the last ten years, India has spent a lot of money to build these metro lines, and now more people are using them every day.
Metro rail expansion in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi has reduced home loan delinquency and increased prepayments.
Delhi saw the most significant improvement with a 4.42% decline in delinquency and a 1.38% increase in prepayments.
Bengaluru experienced a 2.4% reduction in delinquency and a 3.5% rise in prepayments.
Hyderabad borrowers in metro-served areas saw a 1.7% decline in delinquency and a 1.8% increase in prepayments.
The metro network in India has expanded from 248 km in 2014 to over 1,025 km by October 2025, with daily ridership surging from 28 lakh to 1.12 crore.
