India's Credit Card Spends Hit Record ₹2.17 Trillion in September
Imagine everyone in India used their credit cards to buy things, and they spent more money in September than ever before!
They spent a record amount of about 2.17 trillion rupees.
This happened because it was the start of the big holiday shopping season, and shops offered lots of deals and discounts.
Also, some government tax changes might have made people feel more comfortable spending money.
Even though people are spending more, the total number of credit cards people have didn't go up by a lot, just a little bit.
Credit card spending in India reached a record high of ₹2.17 trillion in September 2025.
This represents a 14% increase from August 2025, when spending was ₹1.91 trillion.
The surge is attributed to the festive season, promotional offers, and recent GST rate rationalization supporting discretionary spending.
Major card issuers like HDFC Bank, SBI Cards, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank reported significant month-on-month increases in spending.
The total number of outstanding credit cards saw a slight rise to 113.4 million in September 2025.
