Former Army Major Scheduled for Firing Squad Execution

Nidal Malik Hasan was a doctor in the U.S. Army.

In 2009, he shot soldiers at Fort Hood, killing 13 and injuring 32.

The Pentagon says he is now scheduled to be executed by a firing squad.

It says Pete Hegseth recommended the execution and Donald Trump approved it.

Hasan said at his court-martial that he thought he was protecting Muslims and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The article says this would be the first U.S. military execution in the country in 65 years.

It names Private John Bennet as the last military member executed in the United States, in 1961.
