Largest US Cyclosporiasis Outbreak Declared Over After Lettuce Recall

A parasite made many people sick after they ate contaminated iceberg lettuce.

The lettuce came from central Mexico and was supplied by Taylor Farms.

Health officials counted 12,883 sick people in 21 states.

About 570 people went to the hospital, and two people died.

Taylor Farms recalled the lettuce on July 17.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said infections later fell to fewer than two per day on average.

The Food and Drug Administration said the recalled lettuce should no longer be in stores or restaurants.

Officials are still testing samples to learn how the parasite entered the food supply.
