US Condemns China's Aggressive Action in South China Sea Clash

The United States has strongly criticized China for what it calls dangerous and aggressive actions in the South China Sea.

On July 20, 2026, Chinese forces allegedly injured a Filipino sailor near Second Thomas Shoal, a disputed area.

The US, which supports the Philippines, says China's actions are destabilizing and go against promises to resolve disputes peacefully.

The Philippine military claims that Chinese boats circled and took pictures of a Philippine ship, the BRP Sierra Madre, which is stationed in the area.

China, which claims most of the South China Sea, often clashes with Philippine vessels.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in Manila for talks with ASEAN and might meet with China's top diplomat, Wang Yi.
