SC Suspends Jail Sentence for Convicted Pastor Edwin Pigarez
A Christian pastor named Edwin Pigarez was found guilty of raping a young girl and sentenced to prison.
He appealed his conviction to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court decided to temporarily halt his prison sentence and let him out on bail.
The court reasoned that he had already spent 10 years in jail, which was about half of the time he was originally sentenced to.
Pigarez still has to attend court because of the Kerala High Court's previous decision to uphold his conviction.
The Supreme Court suspended the jail sentence of Father Edwin Pigarez.
Pigarez was convicted of raping a minor.
The court granted bail to Pigarez.
The court said the appellant had already served 10 years.
The Kerala High Court upheld Pigarez's conviction in February of last year.
